Benny Powell: March 1, 1930 - June 26, 2010

Benny Powell was a master jazz trombone player and instructor who played with the likes of Count Basie, Lionel Hampton, Duke Pearson, Billie Holiday, Sarah Vaughan, Duke Ellington, Frank Sinatra, Nat King Cole, Thad Jones, Sammy Davis Jr, and Ray Charles to name a few. He is truly a part of American Jazz History. I was introduced to his music by my friend and Benny's protege, professional trombonist Barry Cooper. After he passed away in June 2010 I was honored to have the opportunity to design his funeral program. It is a small window into his life and the many lives he touched. Rest in Peace.
